Wide variety of powertrains,
good fuel economy, comfortable and well-built interior, are some of the
things you will expect to see in the Honda
Civic,
The 2010 Honda Civic is a compact car
available as a sedan or coupe. For both, there are five main trim
levels: DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si. On the Civic sedan, Honda also offers
the DX Value package, the LX-S, the Hybrid and the
GX.
The DX comes with just the basics, including
15-inch steel wheels, power windows, a tilt-and-telescoping steering
wheel and a height-adjustable driver seat. It doesn't even have a
stereo, though the DX sedan's optional Value package includes a
four-speaker CD/MP3 audio system, an auxiliary audio jack and
air-conditioning. The LX adds 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry,
cruise control, full power accessories, a center console with a sliding
armrest, a folding rear seatback and cruise control. The LX-S sedan
tacks on alloy wheels, a chrome exhaust outlet, a rear spoiler, front
sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering
wheel.
Going with a Civic EX gets you 16-inch alloys,
a sunroof, a six-speaker sound system (coupes also feature an exclusive
subwoofer) with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and a USB input,
ambient console lighting and a 60/40-split rear seatback with a
fold-down armrest. The EX-L comes with heated exterior mirrors, leather
upholstery and heated front seats. The sporty Civic Si has most of the
EX's features plus a more powerful engine, a sport-tuned suspension,
17-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tires, foglights, sport seats
and special interior trim.
As for the
efficiency-minded Civics, the GX has a feature list similar to the LX's,
while the Hybrid is equipped similarly to the EX but adds automatic
climate control.
Options are limited to a navigation
system with Bluetooth phone connectivity (the only way to get Bluetooth
on a Civic) and satellite radio. It's available only on Si, EX, EX-L and
Hybrid models. Heated leather seats can be added to the
Hybrid.

Honda's compact Civic is
available in coupe and sedan body styles; it's positioned between the
subcompact Fit hatchback and midsize Accord in Honda's lineup. Civics
compete with the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Sentra. Five
distinct models are available: the Civic sedan and coupe, Civic Si
sedan and coupe and the Civic Hybrid sedan, which is covered separately
in the Cars.com Research section. In addition, approved Honda dealers in
California and New York carry a Civic GX that's powered by natural gas.
Civic Si models feature a high-performance 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter
four-cylinder engine.
New for
2009:
Changes for 2009 include additional trim levels
? LX-S and DX-VP ? that create new equipment packages for sport-minded
and value-minded consumers, respectively. Also added is an electronic
stability system on new trim levels, as well as Bluetooth phone
connectivity and USB audio options. Styling changes include a front
bumper redesign with larger openings.

The three years since the
Honda Civic was last redesigned have been plenty of time for the
competition to catch up to Honda's solid, fuel-efficient, entertaining
daily driver, but after revisiting the Civic, it's really hard to think
of any car that has managed the feat. The Civic still rules ? in
statistical categories as well as in the real world of commuting and
soaring gas prices.
What most impresses most
consumers about the Civic is that after nearly three years on the market
it still holds up to extreme scrutiny in a very competitive segment.
It's also priced well, coming in lower than the Nissan Sentra and about
on par with the Corolla.

A
redesigned eighth-generation version of Honda's smallest model went on
sale for the 2006 model year. Honda calls it the most-changed Civic
since the model was introduced to the U.S. market in 1973. The only
significant change for 2007 is the addition of a high-performance Civic
Si sedan.
Five distinct models are available: Civic
sedan and coupe, Civic Si sedan and coupe and Civic Hybrid sedan. In
addition, approved Honda dealers in California and New York carry a
Civic GX that is powered by natural gas. Powertrain choices include a
high-performance 197-horsepower four-cylinder engine in Civic Si models
and a gasoline/electric powertrain in the Civic
Hybrid.
Honda promotes the Civic's safety features,
including its Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure that
improves vehicle-to-vehicle crash compatibility and collision energy
management. All models have side-impact and side curtain airbags, active
front-seat head restraints and antilock
brakes.
