At last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Honda and Mugen unveiled a creation that still has automotive enthusiasts around the world talking. Based on the Honda CR-Z, the aptly dubbed CR-Z Mugen RR upped the ante for the sports hybrid coupe in a way that had everyone begging for more... And Mugen listened.
See, originally, the Honda CR-Z Mugen RR was merely meant to be a one-off concept; nothing more than proof of the vehicle's aftermarket potential. However, in light of the universal praise that the company has received for its efforts, Mugen has opted to move the project from the concept phase into pre-production.
And what does this mean for the Honda CR-Z, you ask?
Honda likely won't be offering a CR-Z Mugen RR model on dealership lots, but it will open the door for the company to offer an aftermarket parts package to create one. Mugen meanwhile, might opt to bring a few examples of the finished product to the U.S. as well to put on sale for those who don't want to go through the effort of switching and installing parts themselves. Of course, it's also worth noting that Mugen hasn't officially announced anything in regards to availability just yet. The company has only confirmed pre-production plans, which means they're testing the waters so to speak before reaching an official decision.
